I met Alisha in 2015, way back in the day when we both worked for International Student Services at the University of Alberta. We were part of the “dream team” that summer and years later we stay connected. Covid and “adulting” has kept us from visiting each other – we realized it had been a whole 10 months while we were on our hike – but we made the effort this summer to see each other. Instead of simply meeting for lunch in Edmonton, I invited Alisha and Mohit out to Jasper National Park for a hike and photo session. I knew from Alisha’s Instagram posts and stories that the Canadian Rocky Mountains is one of their frequent weekend destinations. Below, Alisha shares in her own words, a little bit of their globe trotting love story:
“Mohit and I have followed each other halfway around the world twice since meeting in our first year of university. We moved together from the bustling streets of Mumbai to the quaint little town of Preston in Northern England, and finally to beautiful Alberta. Of all the stunning places we’ve travelled to and experienced together, the Canadian Rocky Mountains are indisputably the favourite of favourites.
We especially love the calm azure water of Maligne lake in late summer.
Mohit and I had a very traditional Indian wedding last year that was spread out over 4 days and had over 500 guests! If you ask us now, we can barely remember all the people we greeted and danced with but still enjoyed every minute of it. One of the fondest memories I have from those 4 days, is my mom and Mohit taking turns to feed me biryani as I was waiting for the henna on my hands to dry!
Since getting married, we are trying our best at “adulting” by foster parenting a very sassy pet rabbit, Snow. Even on our weekend trip to Jasper, we checked on Snow using a nanny camera way too often!” – Alisha, July 2020
