You’re reading the interview series. What exactly am I doing here? I’ve come up with a way to share the work and experience of local vendors in an easy peasy format. I know wedding vendors are busy folks with a lot of information to share. Here is the first interview with insight from an Edmonton makeup artist.

Today’s interview is with Sheena Kozak of Sheena Rae Beauty. I LOVE working with Sheena, so much so that I hire Sheen to do my makeup when the occasion calls for it. I asked her to “make me look like Jennifer Lawrence”, and then proceeded to send her five very different looking photos of JLaw and guess what, she totally rocked it.

This January I worked with Sheena on a styled shoot and Sheena did both the hair and makeup for the photos you’ll see below. Model: Nadine Naguib, Florals: Therese Lopez Florals, Dress: Bridal Avenue, Venue: Foundry Room, Photographer: Janelle Dudzic Photography

Edmonton Wedding Photographer

What’s your favourite makeup trend of 2020 – 2021?

Glowy natural skin! oh and soap brows!

What does every bride need to know in order to keep her wedding day makeup looking great all day/night long?

Skincare is key! No makeup is gonna look good if you don’t take good care of your skin. I send out a list of what I want my bride to do the week before her wedding to ensure that she is gonna get the most flawless makeup application. Also teaching my brides how to blot their skin. During a hot summer day, you are gonna get oily. I recommend using blotting sheets, then a touch up powder. It helps avoid cakey skin!

What is one thing you want every bride to know about choosing their makeup artist?

When choosing a makeup artist, find someone who you love their style. I have worked with so many different makeup artists and we are all not the same. Some are more natural, and some are more dramatic and glam. This helps keep your expectations to what you are looking for. Oh, and always do a trial! I want to know what you are expecting before your big day to avoid any stresses.

When/how soon should a bride start looking for her artist?

As soon as possible. I say this because I am booking all the way into 2022 already. If the artists is well known and popular, best to not leave it till last minute. The quicker you book, the less stress you’ll have closer to the day.

What inspires you every day?

Oh man, there is an insane amount that inspires me. First, I would say these amazing wedding vendors that I am lucky to call my friends. I have so many hard working, girl bosses in my life. They are killing it every damn day. Also the younger generation. I used to teach a cosmetology class once a week at a junior high and every time I leave I cry. Those girls make me love what I do. I never thought I would have people looking up to me, watching my every move. It really makes me want to be the best person I can be. My goal is to always stay real and be true to who I am.

Hi, my name is Janelle, I’m a photographer from Edmonton Alberta. I’m all about three things: celebration, connection and client education. My style is relaxed and romantic. I love intimate weddings, the kind where I get to know your family and friends. I thrive when meeting new people. My favourite moment of every wedding is right after the ceremony. This is when your friends and family smother or possibly crush you with either love or cheerful embrace. Bring on all the candid moments.

I value connection and celebration of moments over a big production.
