How I Really Prepare For My Job

The morning of your wedding I’m a hella’ nervous wreck. Seriously. Until the moment I arrive at your prep location I’m sweating bullets. Why? I think it’s part anticipation and part getting amped for the day. And I want to make sure that when I show up for you, I show up as 100% version of Janelle. The one that is going to be unstoppable that day.

Let me tell you how I really prepare for my job on your wedding day.

Do My Hair

I’m going to work better if I feel like I look better than I normally do. The normal hair for me is up in a bun while I’m at the office (I work full time in student affairs at the University of Alberta!). I’m self-aware enough to know that my confidence levels fluctuate with the sate of my appearance. Putting in the effort is going to get me pumped, help me relax and

p.s. I always do my hair, but usually by the time I make it to your prep location, it’s so stinking hot out that I tie it up like Violet  Baudelaire so that I can think straight.

Eat Some Protein…and then some more

It’s a long day. I’m in “on” mode for around 10 or more hours on your wedding day. There’s not a lot of time to eat, except for the stash of mandarin oranges I keep in my car on “wedding day.” Even if I don’t feel like I’m hungry, I’m going to make dang sure I eat a good breakfast. Chicken is a pretty good go-to, or my family’s favourite Polish  ham and garlic sausage from Delton Sausage House and Deli.

How I Really Prepare For My Job

Check My List, Three Times

I try to pack the night before, but I’m going to unpack and re-pack that camera bag at least three times before I leave. I’m also going to leave early, aka start the “getting in the car” process about 30 minutes before I want to leave. The last things I check? Batteries and memory cards. Gotta make sure those babies are secure, in there, and good to go.

BE EARLY. Like, Way too Early

I have a HUGE fear of being late. For anything. So, to take care of this little problem, I leave for my first stop on your wedding day a good hour before I would normally leave for anything else. I don’t mind being early, I’ll either take a few laps around the block, listen to tunes, or answer a few emails.

Listen to my favourite Spotify Playlist

My yet to change favourite chill playlist on Spotify is Tastebreakers. If you have headphones, go listen to it right now. My favourite track is Brooklyn in the Summer by Aloe Blacc.

As relaxing as all the above items sound, they actually help amp me up and get in the right mindset for being your cheerlead for the rest of the day 🙂

Hi, my name is Janelle, I’m an photographer hailing from Edmonton Alberta.I’m all about connection and celebration. Seriously, it’s my focus from our first client meeting till the chicken dance starts. I make an effort to get to know your closest friends and family on your wedding day. Why? First, they’re probably cool people, and second, when they know me as “Janelle” the gal who plays Dungeons and Dragons and has a pet Duck, they’re going to let me into their world. My favourite moment of every wedding is right after the ceremony. This is when your friends and family smother or possibly crush you with either love or cheerful embrace. Bring on all the candid moments.

I value connection and celebration of moments over a big production.
