Edmonton Family Portrait Sessions

We'll play an energized game of red light-green light, see who can blow the largest bubble without popping it and keep everyone giggling with a game of "Simon Says."

Book Your Family Portraits

These Are Your Family Keepsakes

I’m Janelle — an Edmonton family photographer — here to capture natural moments of your family while they do what they do best: play

Play-based sessions move away from classic matchy-matchy styled photo shoots of the past (hello 90’s/early 20’s) and embrace natural and spontaneous moments.

I use engaging activities and prompts to capture candid images showcasing personality and your unique family dynamic.

Sessions are designed to encourage everyone to let loose and have fun — inviting genuine emotions to shine through.

Once your session is booked I share my favourite resources to help prepare you for your session and put you at ease.

Whether it’s playing games, reading books, or simply enjoying each other’s company, I’ll be there to capture every moment of your family’s playtime.

let's bring back play

We work together before your session, creating a list of photo combinations, choosing the perfect location and deciding on a backup plan in the case of undesirable weather. Your family can enjoy your session without trying to wrangle family members and guess who should be next!

Every session includes a print release. This means you can print your photos wherever you like!

Your Questions Answered

• How many images can we expect from our session?

Clients can expect 25 - 35 edited images from a 45 minute family session. Each session is different and Janelle cannot guarantee an exact number of images.

• How will our images be delivered?

Your edited images are shared via a password protected online gallery. I'll send a Pixieset gallery link via email when your photos are ready.

• When will our images be delivered?

It takes me 2-3 weeks to edit and deliver your gallery, sometimes longer during the busy summer months!

• Can we have the raw, unedited photos from the session?

Raw unedited photos are not released to clients. These files are not a finished product and do not represent my work.

• You can just Photoshop that out/fix that in Photoshop right?

I am committed to delivering high-quality, naturally beautiful images that capture your family's special moments. Session fees do not include the cost for extensive Photoshop edits.

• Can we print our images?

Each session includes a print release! This means you are welcome to print your photos anywhere you'd like.

• Where should we print?

I highly recommend printing your images through a professional printing studio such as Artifact Uprising OR ordering them through your gallery on Pixeset.

• What happens if we reschedule?

Contact Janelle as soon as possible via email at if you need to reschedule. There is a $25.00 CAD reschedule fee.

• What happens if we have to cancel?

Contact Janelle as soon as possible via email at if you need to cancel your session. Your non-refundable booking fee will not be refunded.

• What should we wear?

Choose colours that complement each other and avoid wearing identical outfits. Instead, opt for a color scheme and mix and match pieces to create a cohesive look.

• Do you have location recommendations?

Locations I love for family photos: at home on the farm, Louise McKinney Riverfront Park, Wagner Natural Area, and Elk Island National Park.

If it looks like it will rain on the day of your session, we will change our location to the covered Tawatinâ Bridge.

• How can we book a family photo session?

Farmer feeds her flock of katahdin sheep

Meet the Gal Behind the Camera AND the Bucket of Oats

After ten incredible years as a wedding photographer I’ve decided to slow things down and spend more time on the farm.

Now I focus on capturing family moments — the kind of images that I wish for my own family down the road.

On the farm I raise a small herd of katahdin sheep and assist my family with Horse Hill Flowers our flower farm! Ask us about our guardian donkey Cece and our duck named “Duck.”
