When Alex and Byron asked if I’d be willing to drive out to Alberta Beach for a lakeside engagement session the answer was an immediate YES. Reason Number One: Aesthetics. I knew that a lakeside engagement session would fill one of my bucket list dreams as a photographer. Reason Number Two: I freaking love water.

Janelle’s Obsession with Water

And by that, I mean I love being near bodies of water. Lakes, the ocean, rivers, etc. I am blessed with grandparents who lived lakeside at Lac La Biche. Summers spent down at the dock with my grandma or out on the ol’ aluminum boat with my grandpa are my most treasured memories.

Now that I’m well into my mid twenties with multiple passions and pursuits on the go, lake days are something I’ve had to give up. Most years, I make a trip up to Island Lake (friends have a cabin, and every year since high school they’ve opened their doors to a bunch of hooligans taking over for at least one weekend) but this year, weddings were planned, babies were born, and I’ve been driving out to Rocky Mountain House every other weekend. So yeah, not a lot of lake time. It’s a part of growing up.

TLDR?

Alex and Byron’s lakeside engagement session filled my energy cells with that lake time boost I needed for the rest of the summer. The lake is their home away from home and it was the perfect place  I even came prepared with an extra set of clothes incase we ended up in the water.

p.s. I will also NEVER say no to an engagement session with a doggo/pupper.

Hi, my name is Janelle, I’m an photographer hailing from Edmonton Alberta.I’m all about connection and celebration. Seriously, it’s my focus from our first client meeting till the chicken dance starts. I make an effort to get to know your closest friends and family on your wedding day. Why? First, they’re probably cool people, and second, when they know me as “Janelle” the gal who plays Dungeons and Dragons and has a pet Duck, they’re going to let me into their world. My favourite moment of every wedding is right after the ceremony. This is when your friends and family smother or possibly crush you with either love or cheerful embrace. Bring on all the candid moments.

I value connection and celebration of moments over a big production.
